Selling a Vehicle Out of State

If a vehicle is being sold out of state, the owner of the vehicle must:

1. Complete the Transfer of Title by Owner section on the back of the Kentucky Title

2. Transferor/seller signatures

3. Date of transfer/sale

4. Have the title signed and notarized by a notary public with a seal

To ensure the vehicle is removed from the tax records:

Turn the license plate to the county clerk’s office or if the plate went with the vehicle you may complete a TC 96-167. This can be done in person or by mail.

We recommend keeping a copy of the front and back of the filled out title for your own records.

If the current year taxes have not been paid or if there are any past due taxes. They will be due at the time of the cancellation process.
